Connect Search Console with the right Google account

When you connect Search Console, we check that the Google account you just signed in with can actually see your site in Search Console. If it can't, you'll see "That Google account can't access this property." Signing in worked. The account just isn't one of the people Google lists on your site. Here's how to find the right one, or add it, in a few minutes.

Why this happens

Google Analytics and Search Console keep separate guest lists. It's common for a blog's Analytics to live under one Google login and its Search Console under another: an older Gmail, a developer's account, or the account you used the day you verified the site years ago. Connecting Analytics with one account and Search Console with the same account only works if that account is on both lists.

Find the account that has access

1. Go to search.google.com/search-console and look at the property selector in the top-left corner.
2. If your site is listed there, this Google account has access. Click your avatar in the top-right corner to see which account you're signed in as. That's the one to reconnect with.
3. If your site isn't listed, click the avatar and switch accounts. Check each Google account you use until your site shows up.

Once you know the account, head back to Phynite, go to Settings, then Connections, click Reconnect on Search Console, and pick that account on Google's sign-in screen.

Or add the account you already connected

If you'd rather keep everything under one Google login, add it as a user on your Search Console property:

1. Sign in to Search Console with an account that already has access (an owner).
2. Select your site in the property selector.
3. Open Settings in the left menu, then Users and permissions.
4. Click Add user, enter the email of the Google account you connected to Phynite, and choose Full permission.
5. Back in Phynite, click Reconnect on Search Console and sign in with that account.

Full permission lets us read your search data. It doesn't let us change anything about your site, and you can remove the user at any time from the same screen.

Tried every account and none of them work?

Then the problem probably isn't the account. We compare the sites Google shows us against the website address you gave us when you signed up. If that address has a typo, or your Search Console property uses a different address than the one we have (for example, with or without "www"), no account will pass the check.

Reply to any of our emails, or use the feedback button in your dashboard, and tell us the exact address of your site in Search Console. We'll fix it on our side and let you know when to reconnect.

Common questions

Do I need a Domain property or a URL-prefix property?
Either works. We match on your domain, so sc-domain:yoursite.com and https://yoursite.com/ both count.

Does this affect my Google Analytics connection?
No. Analytics stays connected. Only the Search Console connection is waiting on the right account.

What happens to my keyword data in the meantime?
Nothing is lost. Search Console keeps your history, and once the connection goes through we pull the last 16 months of it.
